Chiller Repair | Compressor Replacement | Condenser Replacement | Trane Chiller Repairs | Commercial HVAC Engineering
Project Brief
Chiller repair was required at a leisure centre after a major mechanical failure affected the compressor and condenser, leaving the system unable to operate normally.
Our engineering team was appointed to carry out a critical chiller repair at a busy leisure centre after the existing rooftop chiller suffered a major mechanical failure. The unit had experienced both a failed condenser and compressor, leaving the site without reliable cooling and risking disruption to daily operations.
Due to the chiller’s rooftop location and the building remaining fully operational, the project required careful planning, specialist lifting equipment, and strict safety management to ensure repairs could be completed without impacting the leisure centre’s users or staff.
The failed components were located within a large rooftop chiller unit, creating several logistical and technical challenges:
- The compressor and condenser required full replacement
- The plant was located on a restricted rooftop area
- Removal and installation of heavy components required a crane lift
- The leisure centre remained a live working environment throughout the repair
- Repairs needed to meet manufacturer standards for Trane chiller systems
Minimising downtime while maintaining safety and operational continuity was critical.
Solution
The full scope of works included:
- Safe isolation and dismantling of the existing rooftop chiller
- Removal of defective condenser and compressor components
- Crane lifting operation to remove failed equipment and position replacement parts
- Compressor replacement and condenser replacement within the chiller assembly
- Rebuilding the chiller system in situ
- System pressure testing and integrity checks
- Full recommissioning in line with Trane manufacturer standards
- Returning the chiller to operational service
Ambient’s Scope
Our engineers implemented a structured repair approach to deliver efficient and compliant Trane chiller repairs.
First, we sourced the necessary manufacturer-approved replacement components, including a new compressor and condenser assembly compatible with the existing system.
Once the replacement parts were secured, our team coordinated a planned crane lift operation to safely remove the failed components from the rooftop plant area and deliver the new equipment to the installation point.
The chiller was then carefully dismantled in situ to allow access to the defective parts. Following removal, the new condenser and compressor were installed and integrated into the system.
Results
The project was completed safely and efficiently, restoring full cooling capacity to the leisure centre with minimal disruption to the facility.
Through careful coordination, specialist lifting operations, and experienced HVAC engineering, the system was successfully recommissioned and returned to service in accordance with Trane specifications.
The repaired system is now operating reliably, ensuring continued comfort and environmental control for the leisure centre’s visitors and staff.
